Fire in Islamabad Awami Markaz killed two, burnt tax records

At least two people died and five other injured as fire broke out at Awami Markaz in Islamabad’s Red Zone on Sunday morning.
CDA Fire Brigade teams were unable to extinguish fire even after 10 hours which has thankfully been put off now.
Two people lost lives and one person is reported to be wounded in Islamabad Awami Markaz fire incident.
According to hospital sources, one person, Ali Raza, jumped off the building and then succumbed to his injuries. The other victim, Waqar, died due to suffocation.
The injured person, identified as Umer Ejaz, was taken to the Burns Unit of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he was being treated for his injuries.

Awami Markaz Software Technology Park is a 6-storey building and houses software companies including an office of the Federal Tax Ombudsman.
The fire began on the ground floor near an office of the Federal Tax Ombudsman where the records and equipment of the offices were reportedly burnt. The record of a Rs50 billion project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), placed in the Federal Ombudsperson’s office, was also said to have been completely destroyed.

Seven fire tenders, sky lifts and water bowsers took part in the operation to douse the flames.
Later, the firefighters started the cooling operation to avoid any further eruptions but after sometime the fire erupted again on the fourth floor before it was finally contained by the efforts of firefighters and the Pakistan Navy.
Islamabad’s administration has formed a four-member committee, led by the Deputy Commissioner, to probe the incident.
Despite the daylong efforts, the fire gutted the whole building, which now faces collapse.
