After the three-week siege of Islamabad which disrupted lives of millions and killed few people, leaders of a religious group on Monday agreed to end their protest in Islamabad after they struck a deal with the government, officials said.

The government has finally gave in to the demands of protesters camped out at Faizabad Interchange with Zahid Hamid resigning as the Federal Law Minister.

The “Tehrik Labaik Ya Rasoolullah” group had blocked the Islamabad’s main Expressway as a protest against the alleged change of the law regarding the “finality of the Prophethood.”

TLY leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi while addressing a press conference at the protest site ordered his followers all over the country to end the sit-ins and go home.

On the assurance of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, we are calling off the sit-in,” Khadim Hussain Rizvi told the crowd of around 2,500 demonstrators, who have occupied a main highway leading into the capital.

He further said, “We have given a 12-hour deadline to the governement to release all the arrested workers and meanwhile, we are winding up the things to call-off the protest.”

An official announcement will be made once over demands will be implemented, he added.

Seven people were killed and nearly 200 wounded in clash between police and protesters in Islamabad since Saturday, spurring demonstrators wielding sticks and iron rods to block key roads and motorways in other cities.
