Quaid-e-Azam University ranked among top 100 Asian universities

The inclusion of 3 universities to 2017’s list, ‘THE’ latest ranking featured 10 Pakistani Universities

The latest ranking of ‘Times Higher Education’ reveals that more Pakistani universities grabbing position to make it to the top-hundred Asian University of the year 2018.

Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has improved its status to rank among the top 100 varsities of Asia, Times Higher Education has included one of the medium general Universities of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad into the top 100 universities of Asia.

In the previous ranking of THE, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) was ranked in the 121-130 band while this year, QAU has made it to the top-100.

Pakistan educational institute has performed well since last year and has made a considerable jump from seven to ten universities, other Pakistani universities that have been featured in ‘Top 100 Asia University Rankings 2018’ has been given below with details.

Next Pakistani university on the list is the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, which jumped up to 125th place from the 141-150 band it was in in the last ranking.

COMSATS exhibited considerable improvement in various measures, especially an increase of more than 10 points in citation scores from 45.2 to 56.8.

The varsity was placed in the 120-130 band in previous year’s rankings but has climbed almost 50 places on the back of the strength of its citations and an improved score for teaching.

Pakistan now claims 10 places in the table — up from 7 last year — due to the expansion of the table to include over 350 universities this year, up from around 300 last year.

The list is dominated by Chinese varsities, who make up for as much as 20 percent of the varsities listed. Tsinghua University is China’s highest-ranked institution.

The Director of the Times Higher Education Editorial Phil Baty told reporters that it was a fantastic achievement that Pakistan now has 10 universities in the Asia rankings and that its two leading universities have risen up the table.

Other Pakistani universities grabbing a place on the list are: National University of Sciences and Technology (162), University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (251–300), Bahauddin Zakariya University (301–350), University of Lahore (301–350), University of Peshawar (301–350), PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (301–350), University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore (301–350) and Government College University Lahore (351+).

India has 42 institutions in the top 350, but like Pakistan, a number of Indian universities fell down the rankings.
