Taking action on a news story published on Islamabad Scene, Islamabad District Magistrate (DM) has served a notice to Centaurus Mall for charging entry fee from the general public.

In a notice to the general manager of Centaurus Mall, the office of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad pointed out that the city’s most popular Mall is charging an entry fee of Rs. 300 from people.

“This is tantamount to breach of fundamental rights of the citizen” the notice reads.

Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) has sent a ‘please explain’ notice to the Mall management within three days. According to the notice, legal action will be taken against the Mall if they are unable to respond within given time period.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad explained the situation on social media in these words:

“Let me clarify that all markets, malls and restaurants are public places not private buildings, management can not deprive any citizen from entering into any public place by imposing fee unless it has been notified by the government, it is basic right of every citizen to visit any public place without any unlawful impediment.”

It should be mentioned here that Islamabad Scene reported this conduct of the Mall in a story published last week, highlighting that the Mall was charging Rs. 300 as entry fees.

The copy of the notice was shared by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad on Facebook:
