Islamabad – Pakistan and Denmark have launched first ever cultural cooperation program at Lok Virsa on Tuesday (26 May) in Islamabad.

The two-year program will be implemented by the Danish Centre for Culture and Development (CKU) in close collaboration with local, Pakistani partners from all four provinces of Pakistan, as well as FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan regions. The Danish Government has devoted USD 3,7 million for the cultural program.

The launch event at Lok Virsa was more of a cultural celebration of the new program where local Pakistani artists mesmerized the audience with colorful and dynamic performances showcasing the diversity of culture in Pakistan.

The Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting and National Heritage, Mr. Pervez Rasheed, Ambassador of Denmark, Mr. Jesper Moller Sorensen and CKU Executive Director Elsebeth Krogh attended the ceremony. The power of art and culture were highlighted as agents of peaceful social transformation, sustainable development and economic growth.

In his speech, Danish Ambassador Sorensen said that art and culture are important means to bridge differences, to create tolerance, and ultimately to provide better economic opportunities for every single individual, regardless of who they are.

The Pakistan and Denmark cultural program will focus on supporting art and cultural activities, enhance economic growth through creative industries and promote intercultural dialogue and collaboration. The program component that aims to support creative industries and economic growth, also goes hand-in-hand with Denmark’s renewed efforts to bring more Danish businesses to Pakistan and thereby help create jobs and growth in Pakistan.
