Nation marks Pakistan Day 2018 with impressive military parade

UAE, Jordan military contingents, Turkish Air Force planes feature in Pakistan Day 2018 parade

The 78th Pakistan Day was celebrated with an impressive military parade in Islamabad and a renewed commitment by Pakistan’s leadership for peace and prosperity.

The day dawned with 31-gun salute in the capital and 21-gun salutes in the provincial capitals and the national flag was hoisted atop government buildings and departments.

23rd March commemorates the passing of the Lahore Resolution 1940 which is the adoption of the demand of a separate state for Muslims of South Asia.

The main ceremony of the day was held in Islamabad where the guest of honour for the national day event, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena witnessed the spectacular ceremony.

Contingents from the armed forces of Turkey, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan also participated in the Pakistan Day 2018 parade. It is the first time that a contingent from the UAE military paraded along with Pakistan armed forces. Jordan’s military band performance was highly appreciated by the audience as they performed on Pakistan’s song.

Speaking on the occasion, President Mamnoon stressed upon the need for the national unity amid growing regional threats and added that Pakistan wants peaceful relations with everyone. The president said that Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role in bringing peace in Afghanistan and Kashmir.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Zubair Mehmood Hayat as well a large number of officials and diplomats from several countries attended the Pakistan Day ceremony.

Troops from various units and formations of the armed forces including Army, Navy and Air Force took part in the parade. Keeping the tradition of his predecessors, Chief of Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan led the fly-past.

Fighter jets from the army aviation, including F-16 and JF-17 Thunder, and military gunship helicopters presented an air display over the parade ground, while paratroopers jumping out of airplanes was another highlight.

Following the military segment, various troupes depicting the country’s culture from Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir joined the parade.

An award ceremony was later held at Aiwan-e-Sadar, where the president will be conferring awards to various personalities on their contribution to different fields.
