Islamabad’s biggest Book Fair 2017 to begin on April 22

Good news for book lovers! Islamabad’s best and biggest book fair will be back in the city on April 22 at Pak-China Friendship Centre Islamabad. The country’s mega literacy event ‘National Book Fair’ will continue for three days from April 22 to 24, 2017.

Over 100 booksellers and publishers are expected to set up stalls, with books on various disciplines. Book lovers can enjoy a discount of more than 50 percent on different books.

The theme for the 8th National Book Fair is ‘Kitab, Zindagi, Umeeed, Roshni’ (Book – Life, Hope and Light). The event is organized by National Book Foundation (NBF) and National History and Literary Heritage (NHLH) in connection with National Book Day.

The festival aims to promote book reading culture and convey message of national harmony and solidarity to the people.

President Mamnoon Hussain has been formally invited by Adviser to PM on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui to grace the ceremony as the chief guest on the opening ceremony of 8th National Book Fair.

President Mamnoon is a big supporter of the revival of book reading culture for the younger generation. He promotes literary and educational activities that can help to wipe out extremism and anarchy from the society.

The annually arranged book festival is expected to welcome renowned literary figures, book ambassadors, fans, students, book writers, poet and scholars in high turnout.

The three-day long book fair will be composed of different sessions including book reading in various languages like Urdu, English and Chinese, seminar on important literary topics, intellectual sessions and ghazal by overseas Pakistanis, dialogue on fiction, prose and poetry sessions will be arranged.

Special programmes including lucky book draw and kid’s republic are designed for the children.

NBF Managing Director Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javed said the programmes for National Book Fair are being prepared on the special directives of Irfan Siddiqui with emphasis on promotion of book reading culture and giving message of national harmony and solidarity to the people.

Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javed hoped that a record number of people will participate in the book fair this year too. Last year, he said, more than 1,000,00 book lovers participated in the three-day annual book activity and books worth Rs. 20 million were sold out.
