Police claim to arrest suspect who raped and murdered a minor girl in suburbs of F-11 in Islamabad

Islamabad Police has arrested the suspect who allegedly raped and murdered a minor girl in the suburbs of F-11 sector in Islamabad, according to reports on media.

An 8-year-old named Samreen was reportedly killed after rape in Islamabad on Wednesday in a tragic incident on the eve of Women’s Day.

The grieving family protested against police and local administration by putting the girl’s corpse on road in F-11, one of the major city centers, causing a traffic jam.

The protesters claimed that the police refused to cooperate with them. They also demanded to lodge a case and arrest the culprit. The incident took place in the premises of Golra Police station in Islamabad.

Police claim to arrest the killer

However, on Thursday, media reports suggested that police has arrested the suspect. Minister Ahsan Iqbal also confirmed on Twitter saying: “Islamabad Police has arrested two accused.”

Journalist Hamid Mir highlighted the tragic story on his show, saying: “No big politician is bothered about this little innocent angel.8 years old Samreen was killed after rape in Islamabad yesterday she was buried on International Women’s Day.”

PTI reacts and visits girl’s family

However, apparently, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was the first one to take notice of the case as MNA Asad Umar went to meet the deceased girl’s parents to console them.

Earlier in the day, Sidra Imran, co-founder PTI’s Insaf Radio said that “PTI will lead the case for justice and severe punishments for both the culprits.”

Islamabad citizens react on social media

On Thursday before the news became viral, citizens of Islamabad shared the news and their concerns on Twitter:

According to a 2018 report, as many as 103 minor children including 27 girls were sexually abused within the jurisdiction of 30 police stations of district Rawalpindi during the last three years.

The report for the period January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2017 pointed out that not even a single accused could be awarded life imprisonment, or sentenced to death, whereas only 2 out of 140 wanted accused were awarded punishment for a number of years in jail.
