Fried fish in demand in twin cities as winter sets in

With the first rain of winter season and chill in the air, the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have witnessed a huge demand of fried fish.

Various kinds of fish including Simon, Pomfret, Black Raho, Mushka and Mahasher along with lobsters are being served at the stalls at Chota Bazaar, Committee Chowk, Commercial Market, Super Market, Jinnah Super and different restaurant of the twin cities.

According to shopkeepers, the fish prices have increased as winter has arrived due to its high demand and people come to these fish outlets to enjoy winter season with their family and friends.

The prices in  G-9 markaz for Simon white is 1200, Dehyma full size 1300, Pamphlet 1350, Lobster 700, Mahsher 400, Raho 350.

Nowadays, street vendors can also be seen selling uncooked fish on handcarts, bicycles and makeshift stall for Rs 300 to Rs 800 per kilogram.

The winter food stalls are doing good business due to the rising demand for the foods, one the owners of the fish shop said.

“I simply love fried fish with chips and sauce especially from open markets because it is fresh and delicious,” says Hamid Khan, a foodie in Islamabad.

Fish is generally considered to be among the best foods you can eat for a healthy heart with omega-3 requirements, eating fatty fish at least once or twice a week is recommended.

Fish is a great source of protein and it can be a cure for many diseases, according to health expert Dr Sarah Adnan. She said that eating fatty fish at least once or twice a week is recommended and it may also help with other mental disorders, such as bipolar disorder.
